Well week 2 was better than week 1, but it was still a rough one.
Tytan did really well after surgery for the most part, but still had some minor
complications. After surgery they leave their chest open....crazy I know but it
helps with the swelling and not putting a lot of pressure on the heart. So they
finally closed his chest up a couple days after surgery. It is another OR
procedure but this time the team comes to his ICU room and does it right there.
It is MUCH quicker than the first surgery, but still scary because they have to
be put under anesthesia and all.
He also still continued to really struggle
with his breathing. He was on the vent all week long and was showing no signs
of coming off anytime soon. They would try breathing exercises every day and he
just kept failing them, so the machine continued to breathe for him. This meant
no holding him until he was off the vent :[
Another minor issues is he had ALOT of
swelling and it wasn't going down as fast as they had hoped, so they continued
to up the doses of Lasix and it eventually slowly came off! My tiny baby looked
about 5 pounds heavier with all the fluids on his body....He looked about the
size of a normal baby;]
By the end of week 2 most everything was
figured out and he was doing MUCH better!! We are so proud of our lil boy and
the way he has faced his trials already!! In his 2 weeks of life he has already
proven us what great things he is going to do with his life!! :]
